78 Derngate, Northampton

The Charles Rennie Mackintosh house, Northampton

The iconic 78 Derngate, a terraced house in Northampton which in 1815 was re-modelled and re-designed by the Scottish architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh. It is his only surviving commission in England.

I worked alongside the house Manager to create a series of designs to be sold in the gift shop. Together we picked out some of the most popular and eye-catching views of this small house full of treasures. Including the famous front door with its bespoke lighting. The beautiful garden elevation and distinctive planter. The recognisable yellow and black triangular motif found in the hallway and stair screen. A chair from the dazzling guest bedroom! A copper kettle and the dining room clock.

My watercolour illustrations feature his designs and together encapsulate the look and feel of 78 Derngate.
